COMPUTER SCIENCE

MS Excel (Microsoft Corp.)Students receive instruction once a week for half an hour in the computer lab. Throughout the year, students use Typing Master software to focus on typing skills, speed drills, and the importance of accuracy. Students also use MS Word toolbars creating work assignments and projects. First quarter, students are introduced to the Internet on safety, netiquette, and citing sources. Students are also introduced to file management. Second quarter, students review MS Excel creating pie charts and discussing data. Students use Kid Pix Deluxe as a paint program developing skills in coordination and to work on special projects.
MATHEMATICS
TEXT: California Mathematics (Scott Foresman)
Multiplication, division, and measurements are mastered. Fractions, decimals, rays and angles are introduced.
SCIENCE
TEXT: Science – See Learning In A Whole New Light
(Scott Foresman)The earth's birds, insects and plants, matter, energy, geology, oceanography, and astronomy will be studied. In addition, nutrition and the food groups will be presented.
ENGLISH

Second EditionParts of speech will be reviewed. Formation of paragraphs, letter writing, report writing, Step Up to Writing, and poetry will be covered.
PENMANSHIP

The students will review correct penmanship process.
READING
TEXT: Reading for Christian Schools 4 2ndEd. (Bob Jones University Press)
Selected Novels (i.e. Medallion by Dawn L. Watkins)Comprehension and higher level thinking are emphasized in reading. Major story parts are taught thoroughly.
SPELLING
TEXT: Spelling for Christian Schools (Bob Jones University Press)
Weekly spelling lessons reviewing phonetic rules will be taught. Weekly spelling tests are given.
SOCIAL STUDIES
TEXT: Oh, California (Houghton Mifflin)
Students will learn about California's history and geography by studying the Indians, the establishment of missions, the Gold Rush, and California government. Students will also present a California relief map and mission report in conjunction with this study. This unit will be reinforced with a two-day field trip to Sacramento and other field trips.
FINE ARTS
At the 4th grade level, our music program expands into a diverse Fine Arts Program. The program continues to grow at the 4th and 6th grade level. Grade level classes are listed below:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical education is a vital, integral part of Calvary Christian School curriculum. There is emphasis in the areas of running, jumping, catching, listening, and sportsmanship.
