Sunday's Message:

Heaven Came Down
Response of Praise to Christ | Luke 2:36-38

Welcome to Calvary Church. On special holiday weekends, such as today, we have the opportunity to come together as a church family and worship in a single service. Usually we worship in two services: Celebration at 8:45 am and Elevation at 10:45 am. Celebration is a blended style of music where we are led by a choir, orchestra with hymns and traditional songs. Elevation worship is led by a smaller, contemporary band with opportunities to respond at prayer stations after the message. The messages in both services are based on the same passage from the Bible.

If you are new to Calvary, please join us at after our service in the Connection Cafe in the lobby. We would love to answer any questions you may have and enjoy getting to know you better. Join us next week when we resume our regular worship hours along with our LifeGroups where people can connect with each other in smaller classes. Thank you again for worshiping with us today.

A note from Calvary Church  | December 23, 2008

Dear Calvary Family,

I hope you have a great Christmas with your family and friends. We have so much to be thankful for because of Jesus Christ.

Be sure to join us for our Christmas Eve Candlelight service from 5-6 PM in the Worship Center.

Please remember that next Sunday, December 28, we will unite together in one service at 9:30 AM. We will conclude our three part series, Heaven Came Down from Luke 2:36-38 with the story of Anna.

Some people have asked about the decorations on the platform in the Worship center. The black and white image is designed to reflect the message of how Heaven Came Down in Jesus’ birth and life. Simeon told Mary that Jesus would be a “light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” As a fallen world, the Bible declares that we live in darkness and need the light of Christ.

This image is nicely summarized by the apostle Paul in Colossians 1:12-14 - “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

As I said on Sunday, we enjoy gift giving, family, friends and good food that Christmas brings to us. But, as Simeon reminds us, Christmas is about the Light of Jesus Christ coming to a dark world as one appointed for many to either “fall” or” “rise” in Him. I pray the Lord gives each of us an opportunity to share that love of Jesus so many more we know and love will “rise” with Jesus Christ.

Thank you to so many of you who have faithfully given to Calvary in this month of December. Clearly, many are giving sacrificially. Our remaining goal as of December 21 is $400,000 for General Fund and $126,000 for our Missions Fund. Please continue to pray that we will fulfill this opportunity and allow our ministry to move ahead as we have planned and have trusted in our Lord’s provision.

See you Christmas Eve and next Sunday,

Pastor Dave
