3 Ways God Gives us His Peace in Anxious Times

3/30/20 | by Shannon Reese

    Dear Calvary Family,

While the world may feel like it’s spinning out of control, God is not! He is at work to bring about His purpose and plan through the events that are unfolding around us. Even though we know this to be true, we may still experience feelings of insecurity, fear and anxiety. In these times, we remember three things God has given us to bring us His peace.

    1. God has given us His Word upon which to meditate.

    • “God is a refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” (Psalm 46:1)

    • “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33)

    • “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6, 7)

Today, if you’re feeling anxious, begin by meditating on these words. Ask God to fill your mind with His truth and His peace.

You can also join me on Facebook Live tonight at 7:00pm for my live interview with Dr. Andrea Ganahl as part of Calvary’s new Monday night series, Words of Wisdom. Send your questions about anxiety to before 7:00pm on Monday so we can respond to them in our conversation.Connect with us at facebook.com/calvarylife (you don't need an account to watch - only to comment, like or share)

    2. God has given us access to draw near to Him in prayer.

"Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16

Throughout history, God's people have prayed and fasted when faced with difficult circumstances. In this historical Covid-19 moment of such uncertainty, we feel called as a church to set aside Tuesday, March 31 as a Day of Prayer from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Will you commit to pray and fast and ask God for healing, protection and wisdom for our nations and neighborhoods. We invite you to fast for the day (from a meal or media) and pray with us by signing up at calvarylife.org/prayer.

Throughout the day on March 31, we will also be hosting live moments of prayer led by our Calvary pastors for you to join in with as well at 9:00am, 10:02am, Noon, 7:00pm and 8:45pm. Connect with us at facebook.com/calvarylife

    3. God has also given us the gift of one another!

Calvary has qualified and trained volunteers called Stephen Ministers that are ready to come alongside those who are hurting, to help express and share feelings, fears and concerns. They care, listen well, pray and lend support through a one-hour weekly visit by phone or online connection. While Stephen Ministers are caregivers, we trust God to be the cure-giver.

If you would like to talk with a Stephen Minister or learn more about other Calvary Care ministries that are available online, contact Pastor Jim McCarty at (714) 550-2352 or
