Learn to Live

6/23/22 | The Weekly | by Matt Doan

    Hello Calvary Church Family!

Do you ever find yourself in a conversation where something is said that resonates with you so much that you immediately grab a pen and paper and write it down?

This happened to me a few weeks ago in a conversation with my friend, Ben. (It helps that Ben is a seminary professor who seems to say noteworthy things in every other sentence!) We were talking about the book of Proverbs and Ben said,

There is a well known saying that goes 'Live and Learn'. The book of Proverbs reverses this and teaches us, 'Learn to Live'.

I quickly wrote this statement down, it is so good and true! The heart of the Old Testament book of Proverbs is to teach us the way of wisdom so that we won't make foolish and ungodly mistakes. We LEARN from the Proverbs so that we can LIVE in God's way of wisdom.

So far this summer, we have walked through three Sundays of Proverbs. I hope you have loved these first few weeks in the Proverbs as much as I have! Our prayer is that you are "learning to live" the way of wisdom.

This Sunday, we will be examining our inner life and heart in week four of our Proverbs series. Proverbs 4:23 teaches us to "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."

Often we can look like we have it all together on the outside, but inside our spiritual heart is hard and decaying. Proverbs teaches us the way of wisdom is to pay attention and take care of our interior life with God.

Tim Nellis, our College/Young Adults and Men's Pastor will be walking us through this key teaching this Sunday morning. We would love to have you join us in the Worship Center at 9:00 am, as we learn to live the way of wisdom together!

    See you this Sunday,
    Matt Doan, Reach Pastor
