OC Now in Purple Tier - What it means for Calvary

11/18/20 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

As you may have heard, Orange County has been moved into the Purple Tier for COVID guidelines. I want to communicate some thoughts with you about our response to this and what that will look like for ministries on Sundays and other Calvary Church events.

I know that more restrictions can be frustrating and there are difficult challenges we all face because of them. Your income and mental health could be significantly impacted by this change. I want to encourage you that our God is good, all the time. God is with you. God is our refuge and an ever present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We fix our eyes on Him to have strength to endure through these difficult times. Our Sunday morning series, “What is Faith?” can help build your faith for such a time as this. If you are in need of help or want to give help in this season, please email us at or visit CalvaryLife.org/help

I also encourage you to have a mindset of love and service towards others in our community. We have seen the numbers of COVID cases spiking in Orange County and we have seen many more contract the virus in our own Calvary Church community, including a couple people in the hospital. This hits close to home for us. This is an opportunity for us to pray for God’s healing and to serve our community by acting in ways that will help serve those in need and to stop the spread. Please keep that in mind as we process some of the changes we will all need to make. As we shift our posture from fear or anger to love and service, I believe that God will empower us and lift our own spirits in this cultural moment.

The bottom line change for churches in our county with this move to the Purple Tier is stopping indoor gatherings. Therefore, starting this Sunday, we will have all of our services outdoors or online. We will be actively working on creative ways to care for you and connect with you during this time.

You can watch each Sunday Live Stream service at the times below or On Demand anytime:

    • English service at 9:00am on our YoutubeFacebook, or CalvaryLife.org/LIVE.  Watch with ASL interpretation on the Deaf Ministry Facebook.  We will also be showing this service in the Courtyard with outdoor seating at 9:00am.

    • Spanish service at 11:00am on the @CalvaryChurchHispano Facebook.  We will also be showing this service in the Courtyard at 11:00am.

Student Ministries will be moving outdoors to the Field, with Middle School at 9:00am and High School at 11:00am. There will be no Children’s Ministry programs on campus at this time. Find activities you can do together with your kids at home at CalvaryLife.org/kids

Our Fall connections events including the New To Calvary Coffee + Connection this Sunday, Baptism Classes, and Membership Class will be rescheduled once we are able to regather indoors. You should be hearing from specific ministry areas that you are currently involved with, but I also encourage you to check for any changes in those areas - primarily moving any gatherings to outdoors and/or online.

Thank you for your understanding and your prayers for Calvary Church and for our world. Our mission continues even as we pause our indoor gatherings. We serve a big God that can do more than anything we ask or imagine. Let’s ask big things from Him now.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
    Eric
