Thanksgiving Offering & Global Weekend
The events that unfolded in Afghanistan this past summer were difficult to watch. A nation was quickly overturned and the slow but growing Afghan Church was suddenly scattered. But the crisis in Afghanistan didn’t catch our gracious and powerful God by surprise. As Psalm 22:28 reminds us, “For the kingdom is the Lord’s and He rules over the nations.” One global mission agency likes to say, “When doors for sharing the gospel close, we look for open windows.” And God has “opened the windows” to reach Afghans with the love and good news of Jesus!
This Thanksgiving, as an act or worship and gratitude for all of the ways God has blessed our Church and people in 2021, we are taking a special financial offering to bless Afghans, both here in Orange County and around the world.
BLESSING OUR NEIGHBORS
In Orange County, we are partnering with Calvary missionaries, Tom and Gayle Shook and their efforts through Seeking Refuge to come alongside refugee families who have recently relocated from living in Afghanistan to being here in Orange County. We will use a portion of our funds from our Thanksgiving Offering to help these families with furniture, groceries, transportation and education all with the hope of introducing them to the good news of Jesus.
BLESSING THE NATIONS
Around the world, we are partnering with Operation Mobilization to send Christian radio and television programming into Afghanistan in the majority language of Dari. More than 6,000 Afghan nationals are in online discipleship courses as a result of this programming. Proceeds of the Thanksgiving offering will also be used to help support the work of Wycliffe Bible Translators to share God’s Word in the languages that serve these dear people best.
All three of these projects have the potential to impact Afghans both in country, around the world and here in Orange County in really powerful ways. Above and beyond your normal giving to our General and Missions funds, we invite you to participate in this special offering this Thanksgiving. 100% of funds received from this offering will go to bless Afghans through our missions partners.
You can give at Calvary on Sundays in November by noting "Thanksgiving" on your check memo line or offering envelope. You can also donate online today at CalvaryLife.org/Thanks
Thanks for all you do to build God’s church locally & globally,
