Dear Calvary Family,
In Psalm 61, David calls on the Lord with these words:
Hear my cry, O God;
Give heed to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
God loves to hear that kind of prayer. David is overwhelmed by the circumstances and needs of his life. He, like us, wants assurance that our God will answer his prayers especially since most of the time we are asking our Lord for something that we cannot achieve in our own strength.
David said, "Lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Often God places before us tasks or needs that are like a “rock” that is higher than us to achieve. Without His help, we cannot accomplish what is before us. I hope you are finding God’s strength for that “rock that is higher” than you in your life.
With that in mind, I want to thank so many of you that helped us achieve our December giving goal. Our financial target for General Ministry was $550,000 and for Global and Local Reach was $135,000. That is a rock much higher than any one of us. But because so many of you gave with a heart of generosity, we met these goals! Isn’t it fulfilling to give to a cause that has eternal results?
We also received enough additional funds to cut our General deficit almost in half, so we are now $72,000 behind for this fiscal year. For Missions, giving remains $65,000 below budget for the first half of the year. When we all offer our best to the Lord, we see how ministry is Better Together. Please keep praying and supporting the Lord’s work locally and globally as we move ahead in 2016.
Last Sunday we launched our January series, Simplify and we were challenged to find rest in our Lord. This Sunday, we will learn how to simplify our time. Many of us battle a schedule that keeps us constantly on the move. Finding time to rest and pursue God’s priorities is extremely important for our Orange County life. And continue the discussion by taking part of the Simplify Equipping Course in your LifeGroup or on Wednesday Nights at 7:00pm in the Chapel.
Celebration worship begins at 8:45am and Elevation at 10:45am. Why not make a New Year’s resolution regarding time by planning to join us on time for worship.
It is always good to see you each week.
