2016 Thanksgiving Offering

11.21.16 | by David Mitchell

I want to thank you for your generosity to Calvary, which allows us to serve our community and reach around the world with the gospel. Each Thanksgiving we highlight strategic ways we can use the resources the Lord has provided for us to bless others. Please read about this year’s local and global ministry partnerships below and pray about how you can contribute to these causes.

The Local Reach portion of your 2016 Thanksgiving offering will go to Laurel House, a temporary housing solution for at-risk teen girls here in Orange County. Laurel House was founded in 1985 by two women who were distraught at the sight of teenagers living on the streets. Today it is a ministry of the Orange County Rescue Mission, providing the only teen shelter in Orange County that offers long-term care to ensure ongoing success in these young lives. The goal is to end homelessness for at-risk teen girls by unifying them with their families or moving them into positive living situations. Our Thanksgiving offering will help keep teen girls off the streets and safe from human trafficking, gang involvement, or a life of drug and alcohol dependency.

Calvary missionaries, Oleg and Marina Reutki are reaching out to orphaned and victimized kids in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania. This area of the world is known for its human trafficking with children leaving orphanages as young as 12-years-old. Recently, one girl was rescued and given shelter after her father had killed her mother and tried to kill her, too. She told Oleg and Marina, “…only God saved my life from the hands of my angry father.” Later, during one of their visits to the Transition Home the girl came forward during a prayer time to ask Jesus into her life! The Global Reach portion of your Thanksgiving offering will provide the funds to finish a new Boys’ Transition Home. This space will provide a safe haven for 15 teenage boys at a time along with a loving host family. There will then be three homes for girls and three for boys. These Transition Homes are helping restore lives and give hope as teens receive basic life skills training and the life-giving message of Jesus.
