Mother's Day with Calvary

5/4/20 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

I am excited that we are uniting this week with many Orange County churches and non-profits partners for something called Seek Week as we declare our dependence on God together. This will include virtual prayer gatherings, 24/7 prayer and our region's online gathering is TONIGHT at 7:00PM. Find out more and join me in seeking God in prayer this week at seekweek.org

Then, this Sunday is Mother's Day and this is going to be an interesting year for celebrating mom. The typical fancy brunches will have to be at home, but my guess is that a lot of moms won’t mind being home with the ones they love.

This Sunday, my wife, Bea, will join me for a teaching on Hebrews 3:1-6 that highlights the faithfulness of Christ and how I think that a good mom is a beautiful symbol of that faithfulness. However, as Hebrews repeats over and over, Jesus is greater than anything. He is more faithful than Moses and more faithful than the best of moms.

I understand how these kinds of holidays can be full of joy, but also be tough for many because there are all sorts of mixed emotions for people depending on their life experience. I get it. My mom passed away a few years ago, and Bea and I have had seasons of infertility, so I know how Mother’s Day can bring up some hard stuff. We also know that moms deserve to be celebrated and recognized for their faithfulness. This service will honor moms, but will be primarily focused on worship of Jesus and learning from the Word of God together.

I hope you can join us for our livestream "Church at Home" this Sunday at 9:30am. You can find ways to watch, message notes, family activities and more at CalvaryLife.org/LIVE

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
    Eric Wakeling
