Two important prayer opportunities
Weekly email Oct 29 2020
Dear Calvary Family,
In a week full of wind, wildfires, smoke, evacuations and anxiety I want to thank everyone who has been praying for our community and the firefighters battling the Silverado and Blue Ridge fires. We praise God that the winds have diminished and most have been able to return home. Today, I want to invite you to join me in two important prayer opportunities in the coming days for our nation and our neighbors.
1. Vote early so you can fast and pray on Election Day.
2. Pray for your neighbors and help Light the Night in your Neighborhood
Vote early so you can fast and pray on Election Day
Why do you want me to vote early? This election season has been the most contentious one that I have ever experienced. We also have a unique opportunity to drop our ballots in secure ballot drop boxes or to vote early at polling centers. Voting starts tomorrow morning at 8:00am. You can go to www.voteoc.com to find out ways you can vote early in Orange County. I want us to vote early so we can fast and pray on Tuesday, November 3rd.
Let’s place our vote and do our civic duty, but then devote ourselves to prayer and fasting for our community and our nation. Let’s pray for the good news of Jesus to be proclaimed. Let’s pray what Jesus commanded us to pray - “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Let’s submit ourselves to God and trust in Him, asking Him to relieve any anxiety we have about the election or any ways that we are placing our hope in our government instead of in the Lord.
Can you fast and pray even if you need to vote? Of course, but it could be helpful in keeping our focus completely on God and placing our hope completely in Him on a day potentially filled with strife and worry.
We also have a chance to pray with fellow churches in Orange County for two nights of Seek Week on the evenings of November 4th and 5th from 7:00-8:30pm. Go to seekweek.org for more information and to register as the churches of OC unite together to be encouraged by the book of Philippians and to join in prayer no matter what the outcome of our election is.
Pray for your neighbors and help Light the Night in your neighborhood
We have another special opportunity this Saturday to be a light for Jesus on Halloween night. We highly encourage you to do something in your neighborhood to serve the people of your community and pray for them.
You can be a light for the gospel while having some fun with your neighbors. Some ideas include: serving hot cider at a table on your driveway, creating a fun and safe way that kids can get candy from your home, passing out pumpkins to people and invite them to join our church via livestream, carving pumpkins with neighbors in the front yard, or whatever idea you come up with. I know that we are going to be sitting in beach chairs in the front yard greeting people walking around and passing out candy to kids in a no-touch, covid-safe way.
We still have Light the Night lawn signs available in front of the church office that you could drive by and pick up before Saturday night. Go to calvarylife.org/ltn for more ideas and information and please share what you are doing by tagging us on social media @calvarylife.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Eric Wakeling
