A Call to Prayer
Dear Calvary Family,
We have so much to pray for this week!
Light the Night
The first thing would be to pray for our Light the Night outreach to our community tomorrow night, October 31 from 5:30-8:30pm. We will have thousands of people on our church campus, many of whom will not be followers of Jesus and we get the opportunity and joy of showing the light of Christ to them. Please invite and pray for people to attend. Please pray for safety and protection for everyone involved. Please pray that people would feel loved and welcome and decide to return to Calvary Church and ultimately be saved by the grace of Jesus.
We also always need more cakes, candy, and volunteers - find out more about how you can help before, during or after Light the Night at CalvaryLife.org/LTN
Our Church and Neighborhood
In partnership with the county-wide movement of prayer called Seek Week, we will have a Prayer Walk on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00am. Please meet in the Calvary Courtyard and we will leave from there to walk and pray for about an hour over our church, our neighborhood, and the many people from massively different backgrounds that live near Calvary Church. See more at CalvaryLife.org/SeekWeek.
The Election
The election process will conclude next Tuesday, November 5th and we are called to pray. The path to determining how to live as an involved member of our society is to know the Word of God, recognize our primary role as citizens of God’s Kingdom, and then go through a process of listening prayer before acting upon how God leads us.
I highly encourage you to vote in this way as well. And I highly encourage you to vote, period. But first, submit yourself to God and his words in the Bible, have the mindset of a citizen of heaven, and then pray. Pray fervently. Ask God what you should do. Then spend some time listening. And then after you have a sense of God’s leading, vote in the way he directs and guides you.
We will talk more about what it means to be a Citizen of God’s Kingdom this Sunday. We will also spend some time praying as God commands in 1 Timothy 2:1-2. ”...Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity”
Help them, intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. That’s our prayer for the leaders we both like and the leaders we don’t like.
My prayer is also that before and after the election we would be a people who are known for our love. We treat people with respect and we reflect the light and love of Christ in all we say and do. May you begin to ask God to form your heart in this way now and in the days to come.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Eric Wakeling
P.S. If you are new to Calvary or just looking to get more connected with our church family, I would love to have you join us for the New to Calvary Dinner this Sunday, November 3. See details and RSVP at CalvaryLife.org/New.
