Pastoral Update from Eric Wakeling

6/2/22 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

First of all, I would like to announce that our two new elder nominees, Jim Babbage and Marcelino Rios, were overwhelmingly affirmed to begin their 3-year term as elders on July 1. In a similar manner, you all affirmed Norm Alexander, Brandon Elrod and Dave Brown for their second 3-year term. Please join me in praying for them, and the rest of our Elder Board, as they provide Christ-like leadership for our church. You can find out more about our leadership at CalvaryLife.org/Leaders.

Secondly, I'm looking forward to sharing a message with you this Sunday, June 5 to kick-off our new series Proverbs—The Way of Wisdom before I begin my three-month sabbatical. I humbly ask for your prayers for a few key things over the summer while I am away:

    1. For the Lord to speak to me for vision and direction as I spend time in prayer, solitude, reading and meditating on the scriptures.
    2. For rest and rejuvenation at the deepest levels and that I am able to “be with God” without the need to “do for God.”
    3. For wisdom and strength for our staff, elders and other leaders while I am away.
    4. For oneness and dependence for our church and for a united heart to reach Orange County and the world for Jesus Christ.

I love this church so much and I can’t wait to see how God uses all of you this summer. I can’t wait to hear how God speaks to me this summer about His hopes and dreams for us. I look forward to sharing more about how the sabbatical impacts me as a pastor and child of God.

I highly encourage you to take some time to practice extended sabbath this summer. This will look different for each one of you, but it’s important for all of us. Take a day to pray. Take a few days to be still and listen. Maybe just take an hour to slow down and hear from the voice of God. Take a step toward more time in intimacy with the Lord.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May He lift His countenance to you, and give you peace. Amen.

    See you all in September!
