Reach Week 2026 is Here!
Reach Week Is Here!
I recently started following Formula One racing. This European-based sport features 10 teams with two drivers per team. Each season, they compete in 20+ races on marked-off city streets in some of the most fascinating locations around the world.
Each racing team has what is called a “Scuderia.”
“Scuderia” is an Italian word that literally means “stable” (like a stable for horses). When people refer to “the scuderia,” they mean the entire racing team — engineers, drivers, mechanics, strategists, factory staff, and more. It’s essentially the Italian way of saying “the racing outfit” or “the team.”
Here’s what amazed me: a Formula One scuderia consists of over 1,000 members (with 80–100 serving trackside on race day). That is an enormous support team behind just two cars and two drivers!
So here’s my point:
If Formula One teams put that much thought, intentionality, and manpower behind two race cars… how much more should we, as a church, thoughtfully and intentionally support our missionaries?
I love what the Apostle John wrote to his friend Gaius in the first century, thanking him for being a kind of “scuderia” to the traveling missionaries passing through his region:
“5 Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you. 6 They have told the church here of your loving friendship. Please continue providing for such teachers in a manner that pleases God. 7 For they are traveling for the Lord, and they accept nothing from people who are not believers.[d] 8 So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.”
3rd John, 5-8 (NLT)
During this REACH WEEK, you have the opportunity to connect with, encourage, and walk alongside more than 35 Calvary missionaries who will be on our church campus.
LET’S BE THEIR “SCUDERIA”!
And by the way, I’m officially declaring that the best race car–driving missionary at Calvary is Steve Geis in Papua New Guinea — you heard it here first!
