What do you do at Calvary?
I help create an environment, activities and a program for 1st-3rd Grade students that facilitate learning and encourages spiritual growth.
How did you become a follower of Jesus?
Funny story, I was sitting on my bed watching Joel Osteen, and that was that. Well, let me expand on it a little more. I did not grow up in a Christian home; my parents had separated when I was young. I struggled with acceptance and all the other feelings that come with divorce. As I grew older, I found negative ways to cover and hide the pain; I was seeking love in all the wrong places. Fast forward about 5 years I met and fell in love with my husband Ricardo. We got married and one year later, we decided it was time to start a family. It went like clockwork, a few months in, I was pregnant! However, I was still dealing with the pain, and now I could not mask it with anything I had to deal with it head on. When I was younger, I did go to church occasionally and I took the Christian Release time offered at school. I remembered enjoying it, I started seeking God, asking questions, listening to sermon podcasts, and watching them on TV. That brings me back to beginning of my story sitting on my bed watching Joel Osteen. My Christian walk has not been an easy one since that day asking Him to be the ruler of my life. We ended up losing the baby five months into the pregnancy and a couple more since that. Even through the pain and loss, I can say, “it is well with my soul”. The Lord has changed me and made me into a new person and it is all because of the work on the cross.
