25 Day Advent Devotional

11.30.18 | by Trevor Behrns

Advent is a word from the Latin “adventus” which means “coming” or “arrival.” The coming of God’s promised Messiah is the eager expectation and longing of God’s people.

In the Advent season, we look back to remember and celebrate the Incarnation – the first coming of Jesus in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. We rejoice that salvation came through His birth, life, death and resurrection. We not only look back in celebration, we also look forward in longing to His second coming in glory and the completion of the story began so long ago. We have a sure hope that one day He will come again to reign and restore all things. The waiting will finally be over and we will see Him face to face. And this truly is good news!

Even as we wait for His return, there is still so much He wants to give us today. Our Sunday Series for December—GIVING UP ON CHRISTMAS—will focus on things that may be keeping us from experiencing the full life Jesus promises is found in Him. We invite you to join us each Sunday of this season, leading up to Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of Christ and explore God's Word together:

December 2 - Giving up Hopelessness (for Hope through God’s Grace)
December 9 - Giving up Worry (for Peace in God’s Ways)
December 16 - Giving up Fear (for Joy in God’s Plan)
December 23 - Giving up Apathy (for Love in God’s Presence)

In addition, each day of this Christmas season, we will be adding a new ornament to the tree in the Worship Center Lobby. Each ornament has a word that represents a good gift our Heavenly Father has given us to embrace. And this will be the focus of our 25-Day Advent Devotional.

As James 1:17 says, “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.”

Our prayer is that the short but powerful truth shared each day will stir your heart’s affection and mind’s attention toward the coming of Jesus Christ.
