Living Better Together

03.31.16 | by David Mitchell

Dear Calvary Family,

As a church, we recently adopted the theme of Better Together. Those two words capture one of the primary reasons God started the church in Acts 2. The early church believers would never have spiritually thrived without the strong community of the church. And, we will not thrive without that community connection as well. We gather because we each live Better Together.

There are many examples right here at Calvary of how we all are Better Together. Two recent ones stand out. Sean and Niccole Connally are parents to five children. Their youngest, Noah, was born with a faulty heart and has required many weeks of hospitalization, surgery, and around- the-clock care. I cannot tell you how proud I am that so many of you have stepped up and provided the love, care, and many provisions for Sean and Niccole. Even local media like KTLA News and the OC Register have taken note of their unique situation and the love they have experienced. There is still a long road ahead, but I want to pause and say thank you to those who expressed such sacrificial and generous love for their ongoing needs. I know they are immensely appreciative.

One other dear family at Calvary is Noah and Susie Sepetjian. Sadly, their son, Jonathan recently lost his life in an accident. All of them, including their son, Josh and Jonathan’s fiancée, Kayla, continue to need our love and support. I am amazed again at the spontaneous and genuine love and care that has been poured out on them. Words are inadequate to fully express their appreciation, but allow me to simply say thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus in the midst of the most significantly difficult experience a family will endure.

In a smaller but just as heart-felt way, thank you for the hundreds of notes I have received for my “surprise” birthday and anniversary event two weeks ago. Nothing makes me more uncomfortable than to be in such a spot light, but I have been blessed by your kindness and words of grace. Your loving words are truly appreciated by both Joy and me. Thank you for such thoughtfulness

This Sunday we continue with the Better Together theme with a series in Ephesians 4-6. I love Paul’s words in Ephesians 4:1: "Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called…" We have been chosen by Christ to a very worthy calling. Thank you Calvary, you have been expressing how worthy you are as one called by God.

See you Sunday for Celebration at 9:00 and Elevation at 11:00.
