You Are Commissioned!
Last Sunday, we gathered together to commission a very important member of our Calvary Church family…You!
We had representatives of 19 different job sectors come up to the front of the Worship Center and invite colleagues in their fields to stand and be acknowledged. Then our elders led by our chair, Norm Alexander, prayed a powerful commissioning prayer, calling each of us to full-time ministry in our places of work. Along with the commissioning, we distributed a “full-time ministry” card. If you didn’t get a chance to get a card, you can pick one up this Sunday, or simply download the card here.
The card calls us to 4 areas:
- To create and shape in the midst of chaos
We are called to create and shape in the midst of a chaotic, broken world. This might mean that the system of management at your workplace is chaotic due to poor communication, undertrained leaders and overwhelming tasks. Despite those obstacles, the Lord has called you to work hard (like the ant) and work with integrity to create and shape the best possible outcomes you can for the glory of God. - To build a flourishing community where I am
We are called to humbly and sacrificially love and pray our co-workers, our customers and even our competitors. We believe the best way to flourish is to have a relationship with Jesus and so we look for ways to encourage our co-workers to explore the Gospel. - To Bring light where darkness exists
In Matthew 5: 14-16, Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Your world at work may feel dark. Gossip, envy, dishonesty, lust, poor leadership, unmotivated co-workers. Into this dark environment, you are called to bring the light of Jesus into this dark place. To speak truthfully, to serve others, to respect and honor your fellow co-workers, to do your work with humility and joy. - To enjoy a rhythm of work and Sabbath
We are called to work hard but not to make work an idol. We work for the glory of God and we rest for the glory of God.
I pray the emphasis over the last few weeks on your vocational calling has been both challenging and encouraging to you! Please let us know how we can pray and support you in your calling.
This weekend, we will have guest speaker, Tim Celek with us on Sunday morning to share another key theme in our Way of Wisdom series through the book of Proverbs, “Pride and Humility.” It is going to be a great weekend; we hope to see you on Sunday!
