2019 Year in Review

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Calvary Family,

We didn't just end the year of 2019, we ended the decade! We are now in the 20s and I wonder if they will be "roaring" or if they will be years of revival as God's Word is proclaimed boldly by His people.

2019 was another year of seeing God work through the big and exciting things like VBS, Light the Night and the Christmas Tree Lighting. But mostly, we see God at work through the faithful people of this wonderful church. These are the small and unseen moments of taking a meal to a family experiencing grief, meeting a younger person over coffee to share the wisdom God has given you, participating in your LifeGroup every week for years, or sitting down to pray for missionaries overseas.

We have had some great times and some hard times this year together. This is what it means to be a family. We stick together through it all. We care for each other through it all. We commit to do our part in the family through it all. We laugh, we cry, we hurt, we strive, we trust and we lean into the power of the Holy Spirit for it all. We are better together.

And we believe that with God's power, anything is possible!

I encourage you to read through highlights of Calvary's local and global ministry in our 2019 Year in Review. As you do, I ask you to do two things. First, pray for each of the ministries represented. Also, consider where God may be calling you to get involved and take a step of faith as we follow Jesus together in the year ahead.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

Pastor Eric Wakeling

July 2018 - June 2019

Thank you for generously supporting the resources and staff that make these ministries possible. We ended the fiscal year with the General Fund having a net income of $18,388 so we increased our savings for future maintenance. Our Reach Fund had a net loss of $97,272, but we were able to use some reserve funds and estate gifts to break even. We are continuing to trust the Lord to provide for our needs this year.

July 2019 - December 2019

For the first half of the current fiscal year (July - December 2019), we are behind our budget goals. We appreciate your continued support and prayers for Calvary Church as we strive to strategically use the gifts you give.

CALVARY CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS

CCS provides the opportunity for students to participate in challenging academics and diverse enrichments rooted in Christian values. The schools' budgets, which are separate from Calvary Church, are funded by student tuition and donations provided by generous supporters. We are blessed to see the impact CCS is making in children’s lives!

PRESCHOOL

2 1/2 Years Old - Transitional Kindergarten

We are truly blessed here at Calvary Christian Preschool. The Lord provided a full staff and full enrollment with a few on the wait list for 2019. This year the Preschool had a warm drive, collecting 40 bags of blankets, tarps, beanies, socks, sweaters and coats to handout to the homeless in Santa Ana.

SCHOOL

Kindergarten - 8th Grade

We offer a Christ-centered approach to education with the goal of spiritual, academic, and social excellence.  Highlights of 2019 included: $140K raised to renovate 4 classrooms; 21 student winners in local competitions for spelling, math, and science; and 13 students accepted Christ!

REACH MINISTRIES

25% = $1,090,870

In 2019, we were challenged and encouraged to go “Across the Street and Around the World” seeing both our neighbors and the nations as places and people that Jesus came to reach. And, over $1 MILLION was generously and sacrificially given to support the work of life-changing ministry locally and globally.

A NEW FOCUS

In Fall 2019, Calvary's Reach Ministries introduced a new dual focus for funding strategic initiatives and partnership projects as we endeavor to reach Orange County and the world for Jesus Christ.

GOOD NEWS FOR EUROPE

We are focusing to reach the 98% of people of Europe who need Jesus. In 2019, we became an official church partner of Greater Europe Mission Agency and have a goal to raise up new missionaries and teams to reach the post Christian society and refugees in Europe.

Bibles for Everyone

Through your generosity to the Reach Missions fund, Calvary currently partners with 23 missionary families working on translation projects around the world, so that the 29% of the world without Bibles in their language can have one.

LIVING ON MISSION

As followers of Jesus, we live on mission reflecting His love and light by seeking justice, showing compassion, and sharing the good news of His kingdom with our neighbors and the nations. Where is God calling you?

EACH ONE REACH ONE

As part of Calvary’s vision to reach Orange County with the good news of Jesus, we were challenged as a church family to be praying, inviting and sharing the Gospel with at least one person in our circle of influence.

10:02 & CHOW

We were invited to pray daily at 10:02 for more “workers in the harvest” based on Luke 10:2 - that God would provide missionaries for Europe and use us here in Orange County. And, to pray for “C.H.O.W.” (courage, heart, opportunities and words to say to those who do not know Jesus).
