95th Anniversary this Sunday, October 25!

10/22/26 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

Calvary turns 95 years old this Sunday! Happy Birthday Calvary Church! Come celebrate with us!

I often think back to this picture of our congregation in 1938 in the Ebell Club in downtown Santa Ana. By this point, the church had been going for several years, but I look at the faces of these people and wonder what they would think of the history and legacy they were part of, beginning way back then.

The incredible thing is that they would have had no idea what God would do when they started the small Bible study in 1930. They had no idea what God would do when the 207 charter members met officially for the first time as a church on October 25, 1931. But they were faithful and trusted that God would do what he wanted to do through them as they took big and small steps of obedience. They were guided by the Spirit of God and so much fruit has been produced over these 95 years. Praise God!

We will remember and celebrate what God has done and be challenged for our own faithfulness to what God will do. There will be services this Sunday in English in Samsvick Chapel at 9:00 am (with ASL) and 11:00 am, (plus Spanish at 11:00 am in the Gym). Please join us for worship, the preaching of God’s Word, a Scripture reading from a long-time member, Shirley Codrey, stories from long-time pastor, John Sherman, and an interview with Calvary’s previous senior pastor, David Mitchell. You won’t want to miss it!

    LIGHT THE NIGHT
Light the Night is our largest-attended outreach event of the year! This is a wonderful opportunity to invite people who might not normally set foot in a church, but they will likely come to our fall festival. This night will have game booths, inflatables, live entertainment, free candy, cake walks, animals, and more!

Can you help be part of reaching our neighbors at Light the Night? We still need tons of candy, a bunch of volunteers, and lots of prayers. And don’t forget to invite those you would love to see come to church and feel the warmth and welcome of Jesus while having so much fun! It’s all set to take place on Saturday, October 31, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Find out more about the event and ways you can help at CalvaryLife.org/LTN.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
    Eric Wakeing
