Important Days Coming Up

5/5/22 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

There are two important days coming up that I want to talk about with you.

The first important day is TODAY! It’s the National Day of Prayer. I believe every day is a day of prayer, but today is a day to pray as a nation for God to move in us and through us. I highly encourage you to set aside time to uniquely pray for our country and I have some thoughts on how to do that.

First of all, we believe that God can move mountains, work miracles, and begin movements of the gospel to change the entire world. I believe that it’s Jesus that will change our nation and it’s only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we will see lives transformed. Government programs won’t do that, political parties won’t do that, new legislation won’t do that, and just the right people in positions of power won’t do that either. That’s why we pray! We pray for God to do it!

Secondly, while we don’t believe that government is the answer, we do believe that God has called us to pray for our country, our leaders in government, and for the other spheres of influence in our country including military, media, business, education, church and family. You can see a list of ways to pray today using the guide from the NationalDayofPrayer.org.  You can also come and take part in a Prayer Gathering tonight from 7:00 - 8:15 pm in the Worship Center Lobby, hosted by Calvary's Faith & Public Policy Ministry.

The second day coming up is this Sunday - and it’s Mother’s Day! Maybe this email is a reminder to buy a card or make a reservation or whatever you need to do for the moms in your life. We will be continuing our series on GOD JOY with a look into "Community and Joy."  I'm excited to share the biblical insights I have gained on this topic and how we can find an ever-present source of strength and joy beyond our circumstances.

I understand that this is a Sunday that’s an amazing celebration for some and also a really hard Sunday for others. So come and join me as we live out the biblical command to “rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.” See details for Sunday mornings, including amazing programs for kids, at CalvaryLife.org/Sunday

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
    Eric
