Why Light the Night?
Dear Calvary Family,
Light the Night is our massive Fall Festival with game booths, free candy, face painting, live entertainment, cake walk, petting zoo, and all sorts of fun for everyone in our community. It takes a TON of candy and a TON of work to put this on. Rain or shine! We have full plans for Light the Night to happen in covered or indoor spaces this year.
Why in the world do we do all this?
Because we want to SERVE our neighbors!
Because we want to DISPLAY the love of Jesus!
Because we want to WELCOME people to our church who might never normally come!
Because we want to be a LIGHT in a dark night and give a safe place for families to have fun!
You have an opportunity to help make that happen. I want to encourage us to be constantly thinking about why we do this, even during the event. Let’s see each person that arrives as someone who is deeply loved by God and who might have absolutely no experience with any church or might have only had negative experiences in their past. We can be a light of love for them.
Therefore, let’s PRAY, let’s warmly GREET each person we see, let’s go above and beyond to express HOSPITALITY to all who enter, and let’s seek opportunities to pray, invite or share our witness with them. A great next step is to invite people to the Christmas Tree Lighting where they can have similar fun, but will also hear a brief Gospel message along with the reading of Luke 2.
Here’s how you can still help bless others at Light the Night:
BEFORE:
- Serve: If you are able to help support Light The Night by helping with set up, please click here to fill out this form.
- Invite: Consider people in your neighborhood that you can invite to this fun fall event!
- Donate Cakes + Cupcakes: We need 500 cakes and 300 frosted cupcakes for the Cake Walk and Cupcake Walk. “Curbside” drop-off is available in the Wellington parking lot 9:00am - 5:00pm on October 30 and on October 31.
- Donate Candy: We literally need A TON of candy for Light The Night! Candy can be dropped off in the Worship Center Lobby on Sundays or in the church offices before October 31. We’re looking for individually wrapped candies.
- Pray: Please join us in praying for all those involved, for safety on our campus, and that we will be a light and a blessing to our community!
DURING:
- Volunteer: We need volunteers in all areas of Light The Night! We have two shifts available (4:45 - 6:30 pm & 6:30 - 8:15 pm) to help staff Lil' Light the Night, greet guests, security and other areas. Click here to fill out this form. You may also contact us at 714.550.2429.
- Pray: Please join us in praying for all those involved, for safety on our campus, and that we will be a light and a blessing to our community!
AFTER:
- Clean-up + Tear-down: Immediately after Light the Night (8:00pm) we will start our tear-down and clean-up process. Stay and help for just a little bit or until we're all wrapped up by 9:00 - 9:30 pm.
- Pray: Please pray that people who came to Calvary for the first time would return to hear more about Jesus.
So, rain or shine, bring the whole family for a night of fun at Light the Night!
