A Prayer of Dependence

4/29/20 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

The people of Israel were facing a great enemy looking to destroy them. Part of their prayer in response to this was...

“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
    2 Chronicles 20:12

This prayer resonates deeply with me right now. It is a prayer of dependence on God in the midst of great trouble, division and longing. We seek out guidance and strength from our powerful God.

We will seek God with all our hearts starting next Monday for a focused season of prayer called Seek Week. I’ve been meeting regularly with about 20 pastors from larger churches across Orange County and we have experienced a great unity within the “Big C Church.”  We have organized together to seek God as one Church from May 4th-8th with various prayer opportunities and people from 100 different churches. We would love for all of you to learn more and sign up to take part at www.seekweek.org

Here are 3 ways you can participate:

    1. 24/7 Prayer.  Go to seekweek.org and sign up for an hour in the week where you will be part of 120 hours of unbroken intercessory prayer for specific challenges and opportunities that have surfaced in COVID-19. We are trying to cover every hour of every day next week in prayer. A prayer guide will be provided for you.

    2. Be part of our Regional Nightly Gathering. Each night of the week there will be a different part of OC represented at an online gathering. The Calvary Church gathering will be on Wednesday, May 6 from 7:00-8:30pm. The first half hour 7:00-7:30pm will feature songs, stories, prayers and encouragement showcasing ways God is uniquely at work in the churches and cities of each region. Then the remaining hour 7:30-8:30pm will be an interactive prayer Zoom led by regional pastors covering needs and opportunities in this critical season. I will be sharing a brief message and leading part of the Zoom breakouts that night and Pastor Josh Wathen will be singing a song that he wrote during this presentation. We will also hear about the foundations of the Pop-Up Food Pantry that we are launching in partnership with other churches.

    3. Morning and Midday Prayer Rooms. Twice a day, 8:00am and 12:00pm, virtual rooms will be open for guided moments of prayer.  This will be a space to bring any request to the table. Be connected with others across the County in shared seeking and expectancy. Desiree Elrod and our Prayer Ministry will be part of these experiences.

We are taking prayer seriously and uniting together with brothers and sisters across Orange County to seek God with all our hearts. Please join us! Again, I encourage you to sign up right now at seekweek.org and share about this with others.

Finally, I’m so excited for this Sunday’s Livestream Worship Service at 9:30am to hear the story of Chuck and Michelle Gustafson. They both had the coronavirus and Chuck was even on a ventilator, but God’s hand was at work mightily in them. Pastors David Mitchell and Shannon Reese will be speaking from the book of Hebrews continuing our series "Jesus is Supreme" and leading us in a time of communion at home. Plan ahead and make sure you have everything you need. If you don't have bread and juice, feel free to use anything in your home that reminds you that Jesus' body was broken and his blood was shed for you. You can find message notes, ways to watch and more at CalvaryLife.org/Live

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
    Eric Wakeling
