Global Weekend – Eight Billion People and Joyful Angels
Last Sunday, we began our epic journey into the Gospel of Luke! Sunday after Sunday over the next year or so, we will be diving into this wonderful account of the life and ministry of Jesus.
*Spoiler Alert*
Eventually, we will get to one of my favorite chapters in Luke, Chapter 15. This is the chapter where Jesus tells the stories of the “Lost Sheep”, the “Lost Coin” and the “Prodigal Son.” In Jesus’ telling of the “Lost Coin” parable, he concludes the story by explaining an incredible heavenly reality. Jesus says, “In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (Luke 15:10).
What is something that gives angels joy in heaven? There is joy in the presence of angels, when a sinner repents and turns to Jesus. When a spiritually lost person is found by Jesus, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).
On another note, something significant happened in our world this week. According to the United Nations, this past Tuesday, our world crossed the population milestone of 8 billion people (most of them reside on SoCal Freeways).
In a world of 8 Billion people, it is still powerful and true to realize God cares about the one.
The one who was lost, repents of sin, and found in Jesus.
This weekend, we will celebrate God’s pursuit of the one, in our world of 8 billion people.
On Saturday, we invite you to join us for a great breakfast at 9:00am, Woman will be in Fellowship Hall for a wonderful and engaging event we call “Christmas Around the World” and Men will be at the Picnic Tables by the turf for a Global Pancake breakfast with stories from one of our most courageous Calvary Missionary partners.
On Sunday, we will be hearing about God’s great work in Europe from guest speaker, Rob Bugh, the board chair of Greater Europe Mission. We will also be announcing our 2022 “Cameron Townsend Bible Translation Award” winners and right after the 9:00am service, come join us in the courtyard for a Breakfast Burrito Fundraiser ($15 for one; $20 for two) from our G.O. Team going to build houses in Mexico this January.
Why are we so heavily invested in Global Missions at Calvary Church?
Why are we devoting this coming weekend at Calvary Church to Global Missions?
There are 8 Billion reasons and there is one reason.
In a world of 8 billion people, Angels find joy in simply one person turning to Jesus.
May we find joy in that too, whether the one is across the street or around the world.
“Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)
