Growing In Dependence

7/3/25 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

We are about to celebrate our Independence as a nation tomorrow, while on Sunday we will learn about Dependence on God as followers of Jesus. I hope and pray that you all have an incredible and safe day tomorrow as you thank God for the freedoms we have in this country and then come join us to pray and worship God at church on Sunday and beyond.

A life of dependence on God is a life of prayer and trusting in the Holy Spirit. We want to do that as individuals but also as a community of believers here at Calvary Church.

Author and pastor Pete Scazzero said, “Our confidence is not in our love for Jesus which is fragile, fickle, and limited, but in his love for us which is unbreakable, faithful and without conditions.”

The beauty of dependence is that it doesn’t depend on us. It depends on God. God is the one with the power and he has then entrusted certain levels of responsibility, stewardship, and authority to us.

We need to keep relying on him and we primarily do that through prayer.

I encourage you to do that in your personal lives and with your family. And we would also like to do that together as a church. Our upcoming night of prayer could be a great way for you to practice this kind of listening prayer with some guidance and direction so that you can then practice this kind of prayer in your everyday life.

Our Calvary Prayer Night seeking God’s guidance and provision for our church will be on Thursday, July 10th at 7:00pm in Fellowship Hall. This night will include a blend of praying for God’s guidance and provision in our lives and then also praying for that as a church. We will ask God questions and listen for his answers. We will cry out to him for the needs we are experiencing in our families, our finances, our work, our relationships, our faith, and whatever other issues we need guidance or provision from God.

Also, mark your calendars for an all-church Night of Worship on August 10th and another Prayer Night on August 24th. More info to come soon for those.

    Let’s depend on God together.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

    Eric Wakeling
