Important Reminders for this Sunday, May 24
Dear Calvary Family,
I want to first say, don’t forget that our worship service is at 10:00am this Sunday! We all look forward to this United Sunday with a Family Service, where everyone 1st Grade and up with Spanish, English and ASL will be all together in the Worship Center. It’s Pentecost Sunday, and we will be in Acts 2 looking into the actual story of Pentecost! There will be Pancakes by the Playground after the service and a Worship Night at 4:00pm in the Chapel. What better way to celebrate Pentecost than worship and prayer!
Acts 2:1-2, “On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting.”
Now that I’ve said that big reminder, I can give you an update on the Annual Meeting that we had this last Sunday in our worship services. All four Elder Board nominees were affirmed. Brandon Elrod and Sean Connally will be starting their first term. Craig Bryson and Tom Shook are starting their second term. Our bylaws state that elders can serve two 3-year terms before taking at least one year off before being able to be asked again to serve as an elder. These elders will begin this next term on July 1 of this year and we are so excited for our church to be blessed by their leadership.
The other motion on the ballot was a vote on increasing the budget for Forward in Faith from $3.3 million to $4.6 million, and that would include covering some potential cost overruns and scope enhancements. This motion passed the vote and the motion was affirmed as well.
In simple terms, cost overruns mean that things are costing more than initially estimated when we started these projects. Scope enhancements means we are doing a couple of new things. The first is some additional HVAC issues that were found as we opened up the system. The second is adding what we have called “stadium seating” in the Worship Center remodel project that was already part of the Forward in Faith plan. Stadium seating sounds massive, but this is just having 500 of the 1400 seats in the remodeled Worship Center going up on tiered risers in the back of the room. We are also blessed to have received a large Estate Gift last year, allowing us to pay for these scope enhancements with just a portion of that gift.
We only need $273,000 to complete the entire Forward in Faith plan, thanks to your amazing generosity in response to God's guidance and provision. We are praying for all that's needed to come in by the end of this calendar year. And, we remain committed to completing all of these projects without taking on any debt. You can learn more about this and give at CalvaryLife.org/Forward.
I’ll be briefly talking through some of the timing and other aspects of our new mission and vision, as well as these construction projects this Sunday! I hope to see you all there at 10:00am!
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Eric Wakeling
