Pastoral Update: Beach Baptisms & Member Vote
Dear Calvary Family,
We have a couple big things I wanted to chat about with you this week - Beach Baptisms and our Member Vote in the service regarding Campus Needs.
Beach Baptisms and Party
First, real quick, I would like to invite all of you to come to our Beach Baptisms at Corona Del Mar this Sunday evening. It’s a wonderful celebration of God transforming lives. And if you would like to be baptized, we still have one more Baptism Class at 11:00am this Sunday in the Worship Center Lobby. The party starts at 5:00pm and the baptisms will begin at 6:00pm. Look for the Calvary Church tents to the far right close to the jetty. More info can be found at CalvaryLife.org/Baptism.
Campus Needs Member Vote
We’ve talked about this a bit so far, but I thought it would be helpful to give some more information before this Sunday. You can read much more detail at CalvaryLife.org/Campus that should answer most of your questions.
The vote this Sunday is for official Calvary members and should just take about 5 minutes during our English/ASL service at 9:00am and again in our Spanish service at 11:00am. There will still be our regular time of worship and teaching through our series, What if Jesus was Serious?
We have some big campus needs coming up and the first one we are tackling is the Air Conditioning system in the Worship Center. We need to replace the system and there’s a lot to this 32-year-old, 67,000-square-foot building and it will cost $1.6 million. Our bylaws have some great measures for financial accountability and any expense over 10% of our annual budget requires approval from the membership. We also require approval for taking on any new debt. We are highly averse to taking on debt, so this does not happen very often and in this case it’s only to give us a short bridge between ordering equipment and raising the needed funds.
Here’s what’s on the ballot and members will vote either yes or no on each proposal recommended by our Board of Elders:
Proposal 1
I vote to approve the recommendation of Calvary’s Board of Elders to approve a Worship Center Air Conditioning construction project to replace the Air Handlers, Heating Boiler, Building Control System, and related Roofing areas affected by the construction - not to exceed $1.6 million.
Proposal 2
I vote to approve the recommendation of Calvary’s Board of Elders to expand and utilize our current line of credit and bank note to add up to $1.6 million to accomplish the Air Conditioning construction project mentioned in proposal 1 above.
Ok, so I know this isn’t your typical weekly pastoral email with lots of spiritual inspiration, but this is also very important and is also spiritual. We have been blessed to use these wonderful buildings across our campus built by the faithfulness of our God and the generosity of the previous generations. We don’t need to raise money for building new buildings, but we have received an inheritance to steward well. This is our time to step up with our responsibility to maintain and care for these spaces used for ministry on a daily basis. Please begin to prayerfully consider how you will respond in giving to these projects. You can give now at CalvaryLife.org/Give and select the Building Fund.
We do still have other priorities to consider as we look ahead beyond the Worship Center Air Conditioning project. These projects are still being prayed through and discussed by our Trustees and Elders. Again, you can discover more at CalvaryLife.org/Campus. Please join us in praying for God's guidance and provision in all of this.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Eric Wakeling
