Praying for an Open Door
Dear Calvary Family,
Take a moment and consider the whole concept of sharing your faith and talking about the love and truth of Jesus with those in your life.
What emotion does this stir up in you?
Guilt?
Fear?
Excitement?
Love?
Grief for those who have not responded?
Something else?
This is a challenging issue because a lot of us feel unsure, nervous, or scared to have any serious conversation with friends, family, or co-workers. Our polarized world places labels on people and judges them for doing things like talking about Jesus.
But take another moment to consider and pray. “Lord, what should my next step of obedience to you be when it comes to evangelism?” Maybe it’s a lot different than walking up to strangers and starting extremely personal conversations. Could that next step be…
- Prayer walking in your neighborhood?
- Praying over your workplace?
- Writing names on a 3x5 card and keeping it in your pocket and praying throughout the day?
- Starting a voluntary discussion group in your workplace’s lunchroom?
- Starting an Alpha Course in your home with friends (We could help with organizing, you invite the friends)?
- Spending a few moments writing out your story of how your life was changed by Jesus to help you be able to share it briefly and winsomely?
- Intentionally starting conversations with some new people at the hobbies/activities you are already doing?
- Decide to return to the same restaurant, coffee shop, sports court, or other spot to connect with new people?
- Other?
Start with someone like this, but in the way that God is leading you as you pray. So pray! And listen! And see what small step of risk God has for you.
Colossians 4:2-3 says “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ…”
Each One, Reach One. Imagine the impact if each one of us reached just one person for Christ in this next season and then invited them to be part of our church family.
Why? Because we want more and more people to experience the blessing of life with Jesus.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Eric Wakeling
