The Day I Was Baptized
Dear Calvary Family,
I still vividly remember walking down the sand at Baby Beach in Dana Point Harbor when I was ten years old. I stepped into the water and took those few steps out to where Pastor Homer Waisner of Ocean Hills Community Church was waiting for me. It was a bit chilly and there were crowds on the beach watching but I didn’t care because I had a purpose for entering these familiar waters. I was there to make a public proclamation of the faith that was already within me. I was there to obey God’s command to be baptized. Pastor Homer prayed over me and then dipped me back while saying, “I now baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
I genuinely remember an elation as I came up out of the water that felt like a closeness to God and a commitment to a community that I never had before this moment. The feelings aren’t the point, but I felt something significant as the sacrament of baptism was completed.
This was almost 37 years ago and I still have strong memories of my baptism. It was a highly significant day in my life and especially in my faith journey. But again, the biggest part of it was that it was a simple act of obedience to God that began a pattern of prayerfully aspiring to live my life in obedience to Him in all that I do.
I want this for you as well.
Have you been baptized?
If you have, tell someone the story. Share that good news.
If you haven’t, then the time is now for you to walk in obedience with God. Take this step. I look forward to celebrating with you!
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Eric

This is a memorable moment for those being baptized as they declare their faith in Jesus.
