Two Birthdays to Celebrate as a Church!
Dear Calvary Family,
We have two major birthdays to celebrate this weekend! And hopefully, that will encourage you to bake a cake — keep reading to find out why.
Calvary Church’s birthday is tomorrow! On Friday, October 25th, Calvary Church will turn 93 years old. I love to think about those faithful and bold people in 1931 who followed the call of God to start a new gathering of believers who were committed to following Jesus and the truth of God’s Word even when it went against the prevailing “wisdom” of the culture. My prayer is that this will continue to define us in 2024 and beyond. You can read more about Calvary's story at CalvaryLife.org/History.
The second birthday to celebrate is the City of Santa Ana which was officially founded on October 27, 1869. That makes this Sunday our city’s 175th birthday! The city officially began when William "Uncle Billy" Spurgeon from Kentucky took isolated, mustard-covered land that he and a partner purchased from the descendants of Jose Antonio Yorba and filed a tract map for a town called Santa Ana, named after the rancho that originally contained the land. The boundaries of the city at its founding are still clear today in what we know as Downtown Santa Ana between 1st, 7th, Spurgeon and Broadway — near Calvary's original location at 6th and French.
Please join me in praying for the people of our city to know Christ and to live in obedience to him which will result in the ongoing revitalization of Santa Ana.
And pray that Calvary Church can have an impact on the city as we serve and as we share the Good News of Jesus. Let’s join in with the legacy of those that started Calvary Church 93 years ago.
One of the major events we have that provides a safe and fun environment for the kids of Santa Ana on Halloween is Light the Night. Families from all over central Orange County come to this fall festival where they can play games, get free candy, eat dinner together, enjoy live music, watch a puppet show, and have tons of fun.
So now we get to the cake! There are two major needs we still have for Light the Night — candy and cake. You can bake a cake and treat it like a birthday cake for Calvary and for Santa Ana.
Donate Cakes + Cupcakes: We need 500 cakes and 300 frosted cupcakes for the Cake Walk and Cupcake Walk. “Curbside” drop-off is available in the Wellington parking lot 9:00am - 5:00pm on October 30 and on October 31.
Donate Candy: We literally need A TON of individually wrapped candies for Light The Night! Candy can be dropped off in the Worship Center Lobby on Sundays or in the church offices before October 31.
