Upcoming Ways to Connect

8/7/20 | The Weekly | by Eric Wakeling

    Dear Calvary Family,

We are still buzzing with the excitement of our All Aboard VBS, especially seeing all the kids at the parade- it was such a beautiful glimpse into the personal connection we are all craving right now. We have three important opportunities coming up that I want to make sure you know all about because they will help us feel more connected both to one another and the mission of Jesus here at Calvary Church.

The first is our annual Beach Baptisms on Thursday, August 13! It’s a time of celebration, family, and joining together to share the incredible work Jesus has done in the lives of our church family.

So meet us at Corona Del Mar State Beach next Thursday. Bring your own dinner and join us by the firepits at 6:00pm. We will cheer on everyone being baptized starting at 7:00pm, and to celebrate, each person will receive a personal s’more packet they can make, germ-free! And, remember to bring a mask for when you are closer than 6' to others.

We have also made it easier for everyone to access by doing the baptisms at the end of the jetty, so you can walk easily to it without any need to climb up and over into the cove.

I highly encourage you to get baptized at this event if you are a believer in Jesus Christ as Lord. This is the natural next step in your faith journey as you follow Jesus’ example and His commands. If you would like to be baptized, you can attend a class on Sunday, August 9th either online via Zoom at 11:00am or in person on Calvary’s campus at 6:00pm.

The second thing I want you to know about is a new group starting up this month called Be the Bridge - Pursuing God's Heart for Racial Reconciliation. As the body of Christ, we are called to love one another well, and part of that includes learning and expanding our comfort zones in ways we might not be used to, but are still vitally important.

Join an online conversation to become more aware of and learn how to better respond to the racial brokenness and injustice in our world. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we hope to be able to learn, listen, and support each other as we become a more loving and welcoming church and society. Finally, I have also loved seeing so many of you at our Outdoor Worship Services these past few weeks! It is a blessing to be able to worship in person together again, even if it looks pretty different than before.

We would love for even more of you to join too - if you’d like to reserve a seat for you and your household, you can do that on our Calvary Church Center app. Learn more and download the Church Center App today at calvarylife.org/app.

I will be preaching an important message on Practicing the Sabbath. It's something that God has really been putting on my heart lately. I've lead a summer LifeGroup exploring scripture on this and can't wait to share more about it now with our whole church family. Whether you join us live online at 9:30am or on campus at 7:00pm, I hope that you will take time this Sunday to hear from God's Word on this vitally important topic and how we can build a life-giving rhythm into our lives of rest and delight in the Lord.
