We Need You!
We Need You!
Last week at this time, we had almost 800 kids and 460 volunteers joyfully bouncing around our church campus for VBS. It was the best! This week, the church campus is eerily quiet, we miss you!
Do you remember the children’s nursery rhyme,
Here is the church. (interlock hands)
Here is the steeple. (pointer fingers go up)
Open the doors. (thumbs open out)
See all the people! (fingers inside clasped hands wiggle back and forth)
Church is about people.
People coming together from all generations and cultures to worship the risen savior, Jesus Christ!
When I would say the Here is the Church rhyme to my kids when they were little, I would repeat the top three lines of the poem a second time. When we got to the line, “see all the people”, I would hide my fingers representing the people and say to my kids, “oh no, where did all the people go?” Did anyone else do this or is this just a weird Pastor trick?
Our church could have the nicest buildings and the most organized programs, but ultimately what is most important about our church is the people. We pray you feel this at Calvary. We need you! We need your spiritual gifts, your experiences, your generosity, your presence in our gatherings, and your love for one another.
Here are 5 ways we can be the people of Calvary this month:
- Join us on Sundays for our new sermon series, What if Jesus was Serious, as we walk through the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 6. There is so much gold in this chapter of the Bible, you will be challenged and transformed as we walk through it together.
- Donate a new backpack or school supplies to bless kids in need on August 6th or 13th - See List of Items
- Find a group to connect in or a team to serve with on August 20th at our Connect Fair - See Details
- If you aren’t an official member of Calvary, come discover more about our church family and the membership path on August 20th - Register Here
- Read through our summer book, What if Jesus Was Serious and invite someone you know at Calvary to meet for coffee or tea and discuss the book together - Learn More
Did you know that in the original children’s nursey rhyme of Here is the Church, there is actually a fifth line? The fifth and final line goes like this,
“Here's the pastor going upstairs, And here he is saying his prayers.” (hands change from clasped to praying hands)
Our commitment to you as the pastors and staff of Calvary Church is to be praying for you! Praying for you as you live out your vocational calling, care for your families, friends and neighbors, and participate and serve as the people of Calvary Church.
We can’t wait to see what God has next for you!
