Why are Communion & Baptism Vital for Christians?
Dear Calvary Family,
I want to share about upcoming opportunities we have at Calvary for two vital ordinances we observe as significant moments in our worship services and our life with Jesus—communion and baptism.
First, I hope you have all been enjoying our “series within a series within a series” through the Gospel of Luke in The Week that Changed the World about Communion for the last couple of weeks. We will continue to dig into Luke’s account of the Last Supper this Sunday while taking communion again in a very special and memorable way. I highly encourage you all to make every effort to attend in-person to be part of this beautiful sacrament together.
Matt and I discussed many different viewpoints, issues, and controversies related to The Lord’s Supper on the Calvary Life Podcast this week, so I encourage you to check it out. You can find it at CalvaryLife.org/Podcast or search “Calvary Life Podcast” on services like Apple or Spotify. You can also catch up on past sermons to really understand the Old Testament background of Communion and what Jesus was doing when he instituted the Lord’s Supper in the Upper Room on our Church Center App, at CalvaryLife.org/Sermons, or watch any past live stream on Vimeo or YouTube.
And while we are talking about meaningful ordinances given to us by Jesus to follow, we are also very excited to announce that we will be having an opportunity to be baptized at our United Sunday coming up on Thanksgiving weekend, November 30 in a Family Service at 10:00am with all languages and ages first grade and up in the Worship Center. This is also the first Sunday of Advent, so it will be a truly special time together.
Have you trusted in Jesus, but have not yet obeyed His teaching to be baptized? One of the last words from Jesus was for each believer to be baptized as an outward expression of their faith. If you would like to be baptized on November 30, then we have two opportunities for you to take the Baptism Class, where you will learn more about what baptism is and isn’t, and how everything will work on the day of your baptism. The class will be offered on Sunday, November 16 or 23 at 11:00 am. Learn more and RSVP today on our Church Center App or at CalvaryLife.org/Baptism.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Eric Wakeling
