Day 12: Realign From Giving Worth To Recognizing Worth

Revelation 4:8 “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,' who was, and is, and is to come.”

Devotional · · · God is not insecure. The Father, the Son and the Spirit are over all and through all and in all (Ephesians 4:4-6). The great I AM (Exodus 3:14) is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) He does not need to hear songs about Himself in order to get through the day. He does not need to have sacrifices made to Him in order to have value. Nothing that we do can give or take away value from God. In true worship, we are recognizing and responding to the immense, generous, neverending, overwhelming value and perfection and holiness that God eternally possesses. In this interaction, we allow the Holy Spirit to change us more and more into the image of Christ as we know more and more of the worthiness of God. The Spirit leads us to respond to that worthiness and structure our lives accordingly, aligned to God’s will and God’s ways. (Romans 12:1-2)

Prayer · · · Holy God, I acknowledge Your perfect holiness. I recognize that Your being is completely independent of me and what I do. But Lord I also praise You for what that recognition does. Thank you that through worship I am able to both learn more of who You are and allow my life to be changed. God I ask that You would transform me through worship. Please show me how to build my life in a way that reflects the reality of who You are. Give me eyes to see your incredible nature and allow me to live in response to that.

Day 11: Realign From Preference To Sacrifice

Hebrews 13:15 “Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.”

Devotional · · · In 2 Samuel 24:24 King David replies to an opportunity to present a sacrifice that would not cost him anything. “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which cost me nothing.” How often do we look for this same type of worship experience? A method of worship that is convenient, to our liking, and easy to take part in? The reality of sacrifice is that it should cost us something. In its truest nature, worship is a response of reverence and a sacrifice of something of value to recognize God’s worth, so that our lives may be realigned to His reality. Resist the temptation to find easy ways of worship. Lean into the methods of worship that are not comfortable for you. For in these methods, we sacrifice our preference and comfort on the altar. And in this, may we find Christ as our greatest treasure. (Matthew 13:44-46; Philippians 3:7-11)

Prayer · · · Lord God, create in me a clean heart of worship. Move me away from wanting it to be perfect in my eyes and instead understand what makes it perfect in Your eyes. I often look to the comfortable way to worship; but Father, I want to worship with sacrifice. I want to give to You that which costs me something. Help me to surrender my preference and convenience to pursue You and Your Kingdom at any cost. I want to structure my life in such a way that it is clear that You are of most value to me. May Your Holy Spirit guide me in my worship. May I learn more to give more of myself, my preferences, and my comfortability, so that You may be truly praised.

Day 10: Realign From False Security To True Peace

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 "Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from You; You are the ruler of all things. In Your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all"

Devotional · · · Much of the human experience is the attempt to create a system of security that will cause us to feel safe. This system is built through habits and decisions usually centering around things like money, power, reputation, and possessions. In worship, we realign ourselves to the reality that the only true security available to us is that we rest in the hand of the Almighty. “For the life of every living thing is in His hand, and the breath of every human being.” (Job 12:10) Everything else we trust in is a shadow of security that will inevitably let us down. By being people that worship and thereby recognizing God’s holiness, we wage war against the lie that our peace can come from something that we can manufacture rather than from God. We can accept the invitation of Jesus to stop worrying, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and trust Him fully today and always (Matthew 6:25-34)

Prayer · · · Almighty God, I praise You for your sovereignty! I acknowledge that You are in control of all things in this universe. I release to You those issues in my life that I have given too much power to. I ask that You remind me of Your constant faithfulness. Fill me up Lord with Your peace that surpasses all understanding as I bring my life to You in prayer and petition. (Philippians 4:6-7)
